Training with an EZ-bar

A curl bar , also called an EZ-bar , is a variation of the barbell. The key difference lies in its shape. While a conventional barbell has a straight bar shape, the curl bar is curved in an EZ-shape. The EZ-bar is very popular for biceps training. The main functions of the biceps are to bend the arm and rotate the wrist. Due to the shape of the EZ-bar, the wrist is automatically rotated slightly when gripping it. This allows you to utilize the advantages of a barbell over dumbbells while still fulfilling the relatively important function of wrist rotation for biceps training. Furthermore, this rotated position allows for a better stimulus to the muscle and minimizes the risk of injury during biceps training. The excessive external rotation required with a straight bar often leads to injuries in the wrist and/or shoulder.

The EZ-bar offers two different grip options depending on your needs. Besides bicep curls, there are a number of other exercises that are easier to perform with an EZ-bar than with a standard barbell. Exercises for the forearms, such as overhand curls, are particularly well-suited. Another exercise is the standing row, which works your biceps, back, and neck. For an intense triceps workout, you can also perform excellent skull crushers.

SZ bar - Triceps press

The EZ-bar curl bar is also very popular for triceps extensions. Triceps extensions with an EZ-bar are an effective exercise for specifically targeting the triceps muscle. The exercise can be performed either standing or lying on a weight bench. Grip the curl bar with a wide grip and ensure your elbows are close to your body. Position the EZ-bar slightly behind your head or overhead. Decide which starting position is more comfortable for you. Now, press the EZ-bar upwards. During the upward press, the triceps muscle is contracted and engaged. Slowly lower the EZ-bar back to the starting position. Repeat the exercise as many times as needed according to your training plan.

Pay attention to proper form and breathing! Increase the weight on the EZ bar slowly and carefully. Good muscle awareness and proper muscle contraction lead to more growth than incorrect and heavy training.
